About Washed Up¶

We're building a survival and adventure game inside Rust. Its terrain, creatures, vehicles and building pieces give us a large world to work with. We add custom maps and gameplay that connect exploration, learning, making things and living alongside other people.
Most of the island gives strangers room to cooperate and protects their homes from ordinary raiding. Wildlife, exposure, weather and armed inhabitants make preparation worthwhile. Announced PvP city islands and consensual feuds offer other terms for people who want them; the rules explain those boundaries.
The game we are building¶
We want several ways to enjoy an evening here. An angler can learn a stretch of water and improve the equipment for a harder catch. A diver can work along the coast, prepare for deeper wrecks and bring materials back to a workshop. A household can supply meals, trade useful goods and send a parcel to someone across the island. Friends can put their equipment toward a convoy, a Raid Estate or a larger encounter.
We connect those activities through useful discoveries. The technology tree is closed. Found blueprints, research, books and practice open new possibilities. A publication can teach the recipe for a piece of equipment; a meal can help with the next expedition; salvage from that trip can supply a project at home. Different preparation, routes and company can make different approaches practical.
We also change the world those activities happen in. Cities have streets and occupied places to investigate. Trails connect destinations beyond the main roads. Wreckage and reefs extend the search below the coast. Vegetation, resources and wildlife respond to the country around them, while weather can change the conditions of an otherwise familiar journey.
We build the maps with Ironworks, the worldbuilding application developed alongside Washed Up. Behind the Island explains the tools and decisions that produce the places seen in game. Why Play? gives the shorter tour of what those changes mean for an evening on the island.
A living field guide¶
Washed Up is in open alpha. Systems are still being developed, balance can change, and bugs can interrupt a trip. We welcome people willing to explore and tell us what was enjoyable, confusing or broken. Follow Discord announcements for testing and wipe terms.
We keep this site useful both before joining and during play. Getting Started covers the first evening. The Field Guide helps choose an activity or find an answer. Its recipes, equipment, skills and other reference records follow the game's current definitions, with practical instructions beside them.
We continue to develop the world and its activities. Bring observations, questions and stories to Discord. For a problem, tell us what happened, when and where, and what you expected. Reports help us improve the game; accounts of an enjoyable outing help us understand what is working.
