Rules & Help¶
A little courtesy gets a person a long way here. So does knowing exactly where courtesy has ceased to be compulsory.
Around other players¶
No cheating, exploits, griefing, harassment, ban evasion, obscene conduct, illegal content or exploitative behaviour. Outside legal PvP and valid feuds, do not raid, kill, loot, trap, door-camp or abuse unrelated players and sleepers.
Ordinary protection covers unrelated players and their owned buildings, storage and equipment. Rust teammates can damage one another and have owner/team permissions; joining a team is a meaningful decision. Locks and Tool Cupboard authorization still have their own jobs. A person who lets you build nearby has not necessarily opened their cupboards.
Staff can review logs and context. Report credible cheating or exploits, and appeal bans through Discord.
PvP islands¶
Announced city islands can permit full PvP. Ordinary cities on the mainland do not become PvP simply because they have streets. Use /pvp to check your current status and heed the approach warnings.
| Where you are | What to expect |
|---|---|
| Approaching a legal-PvP island | Warnings begin 50 m outside. Building and deployable placement are blocked in that outside approach ring. |
| Inside | Combat, raiding, looting and property access follow the zone rules. The boundary includes the shoreline and 3 m offshore, every altitude and interior lakes. |
| Leaving | Direct combat can continue for 60 seconds. Accepted combat refreshes the timer. Looting and property actions still require physical presence in the same zone. |
| Dying there | Ordinary Rust corpse/backpack and respawn behavior replaces the ghost-and-gravestone recovery. |
Graveyards and balloons provide no PvP sanctuary inside these islands, and they have no balloon station. Managed service, event and transit equipment retains its own protection.
Enter at your own risk. Staff investigate credible cheating and exploits; ordinary PvP losses receive no fairness ruling, compensation or retroactive adjustment when a loophole is later closed.
Consensual feuds¶
Use /feud <player> to challenge someone. They repeat the command with your name to accept. A challenge alone does not authorize a fight. Accepted feuds can affect current teammates and owned property, so discuss the consequences before accepting.
| Action | Command or duration |
|---|---|
| Propose; the other player repeats the command to accept | /feud <player> |
| Inspect active and pending feuds | /feud status [player] |
| Unaccepted challenge expires | 30 minutes |
| Accepted feud expires | 24 hours |
Use /feud status before fighting, especially after a team change or time away. An unrelated passer-by has not joined your dispute.
Sharing an object¶
Look at an object you own and use /share public to allow outside interaction. /share private withdraws it; /share status checks it. The owner and their current team can change sharing.
Locks and normal authorization still apply. Sharing does not transfer ownership or authorize damage. It is suitable for offering a useful fixture to visitors without turning the whole home into common property.
Wanted incidents¶
Shooting down a balloon-station restock drone can make you Wanted. That allows eligible player attacks and changes safe-zone treatment. A qualifying killer can claim the resulting exact corpse. Your other property does not become public loot.
The notification explains the incident. Running into a safe zone or killing yourself is not a reliable way to end it. Leave delivery aircraft alone if you want a shopping trip to remain a shopping trip.
Quick help¶
| Problem | Check first |
|---|---|
| I am a ghost | Stay connected, find your own active grave and use E. Recovery |

| An item cannot be researched | Some targets, including tier-three items, are excluded from table research. Progression |
| I cannot repair a found gun | Unknown-blueprint improvised repairs need a sufficiently worn gun and the displayed parts. Repairs |
| My net has no inventory | Collect the drops below and around it. Salvage nets |
| No taxi will come | Use a telephone, stand near an eligible road and check the response. Taxi dispatch |
| A shop purchase cannot be delivered | Check an eligible Mail Terminal and room for the entire parcel. Mail |
| I have two kinds of recycler | The carried Personal Recycler opens with /r; the placed Recycler needs power. Recycling |
| A strange effect has started | Use /fx and read the item's entry before taking another dose. Unique Items |
| I want fewer signals or a different inventory behavior | Open /toggle. Commands |
Open alpha feedback¶
Washed Up is in open alpha. Bugs, unfinished systems and balance changes are part of testing. Watch Discord for testing and wipe announcements; an ordinary restart does not itself mean a wipe.
Post bugs and feedback in Discord. A useful report includes:
- What you were doing, what happened and what you expected.
- Roughly when and where it happened, with a map grid or nearby landmark.
- Whether it repeats and the steps that make it happen.
- A screenshot or short clip when it helps explain the problem.
Tell us what was fun, confusing, too easy or tedious too. If you want to help test more closely, ask in Discord about the available testing tools.
